🌿 Peperomia prostrata – String of Turtles

Tiny leaves, big vibes.

Meet the Peperomia prostrata, affectionately known as String of Turtles – and yes, it’s just as cute as it sounds. With its trailing strands of teeny-tiny leaves patterned like turtle shells, this botanical beauty is a slow grower with maximum aesthetic payoff. Native to the rainforests of Brazil, it's perfectly at home cascading from a shelf or chilling in a hanging pot.

Each leaf is like a mini mosaic – dark green with intricate silvery veins that fade into rich burgundy stems. A real show-stopper for terrariums, windowsills, or that corner of your home that’s crying out for a little jungle magic.

☀️ Light & Position

This tropical gem prefers bright, indirect light – think dappled jungle vibes, not full sun. Too much direct light and those gorgeous turtle-shell patterns can fade. If you're placing it near a window, a sheer curtain will keep it happy and stylish.

💧 Water Me Right

Low maintenance, high reward.
Let the top of the soil dry out between waterings – overwatering is a no-go. It stores water in its fleshy leaves (hello, semi-succulent life!), so when in doubt, give it a day or two. Avoid soggy soil and you'll be golden.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Peperomia prostrata thrives in warm, humid environments – just like its rainforest roots. Keep it cosy (ideally 18–24°C) and mist occasionally if your home’s on the drier side. It’s a fab fit for bathrooms, kitchens, or anywhere with a humidity boost.

🌱 Pet Friendly

Good news! This little turtle parade is non-toxic to pets – so your cats, dogs, and curious creatures can admire it safely.

Jungle Fever Tips:

  • Loves a terrarium environment – stable humidity and light = happy turtles.

  • Use a well-draining mix – think cactus compost with a touch of orchid bark.

  • Gentle on the eyes and the soul – a calming addition to any plant gang.

Bring home a slice of the rainforest and let the String of Turtles trail its charm through your space. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned leaf-lover, this quirky little Peperomia will quickly become a favourite in your indoor jungle.
